Window Frame

When John Sheldon's 1699 house was torn down in 1848, this window frame was saved as a relic. The house survived the 1704 raid on Deerfield, Massachusetts, but by the mid-19th century, it fell victim to demolition. Members of the community, however, elected to save parts of the house because of its role in the 1704 raid. The structure had become known as the "Old Indian House." One of several windows in Sheldon's ambitious two-story house, this one survives as a reminder of the house and early architectural detail.
