Tree From Rising House in Oka, Quebec

In 1889 C. Alice Baker brought a spruce tree from the home site of 1704 captives, Josiah Rising and Abigail Nims, in Oka, Quebec. The tree was planted at the front corner of Memorial Hall Museum in Deerfield, Massachusetts, in memory of the captives. The conifer remained on the site until it fell in a storm in September 1999. This photograph was taken by Frederick C. Nims in 1908.
