Philippe de Rigaud de Vaudreuil's Portrait

This portrait of Philippe de Rigaud, Marquis de Vaudreuil (circa 1643-1725) was painted by William Raphael in 1905. It was most likely copied from an original by Léopold Darangel. Vaudreuil emigrated to New France in 1637 and led French campaigns against the Iroquois Confederacy between 1690 and 1700. In 1698 he succeeded Louis-Hector de Callière as Governor of Montréal, and five years later he became Governor General of New France.
